About us
Harrop.works sells original photographic works by the artist Harrop. It is run by James Harrop, a sole trader trading as Harrop.works, of 100 Munster Road, London SW6 5RD. You can reach us at works@harrop.works.
These terms apply when you buy a work from us. Please read them before you buy. If anything is unclear, email us and we'll explain.
The works
Each Quartet joins four photographs into one work. It is printed directly onto four aluminium composite plates, floated on cotton museum board in an unglazed box frame, to museum standard, in London.
- By Harrop. Nine Quartets composed by Harrop. Each is made once, in the size its first buyer chooses, and never again in any size.
- Commissions. A commissioned Quartet is a one of one, composed by you from Harrop's archive and approved by Harrop. It is made once and never again in any size, and its combination is not offered to anyone else.
- Colour. Screens show colour differently, so the finished work may look slightly different from the image on your screen. The photographs record real surfaces, so marks, grain and texture are part of the work, not faults.
How buying works
Request a one of one from the composer, enquire about a work by Harrop, or email us directly. We will confirm the work, size, price and expected delivery date, and send you a secure payment link. Sets for designers and venues are agreed in writing, project by project.
A contract is formed when we email to confirm your order and you have paid. Until then we may decline an order, for example if the work has already been sold or a price shown was wrong.
Prices and payment
- Prices are in pounds sterling and include crating and delivery.
- The price of a one of one is the price shown on the day you send your request.
- Twelve one of ones are made each quarter. If a quarter's twelve are taken, your request is held for the next quarter, or you may withdraw it.
- Works by Harrop are priced on request.
- We confirm the price in writing when we accept your order.
- Payment is taken through our payment provider, Stripe, or by bank transfer. We never see or store your full card details.
Commissions
When you request a commission, Harrop reviews your composition and may suggest a change. We then send you a proof. Nothing is charged until you approve the final proof.
Once you have approved the proof and paid, we start making a work to your personal specification. Because of this, the 14-day right to cancel described below does not apply to commissions once production has started. This does not affect your rights if a commissioned work arrives damaged or faulty.
Delivery
- Works are crated and delivered to your address. We confirm the expected delivery date when we accept your order.
- For deliveries outside the United Kingdom, import duties, taxes and customs charges may be due on arrival. These are payable by you and are not included in the price.
- The work is your responsibility from the moment it is delivered to you or to someone you nominate.
- Please check the work when it arrives and tell us about any damage within 48 hours, with photographs of the work and the crate. Keep the crate and packing until we have responded.
Your right to cancel
If you buy a work by Harrop as a consumer, you can cancel for any reason within 14 days of the day the work is delivered. To cancel, email us at works@harrop.works with your name, the work and your order date.
- You must return the work within 14 days of telling us, in its original crate and packing, with its certificate and hologram intact.
- You are responsible for the cost of returning the work, and for insuring it in transit. Because of the size and value of the works, return delivery can be expensive; we can arrange it for you and tell you the cost first.
- We refund the price you paid, including the original delivery charge, within 14 days of receiving the work back. We may reduce the refund if the work has been damaged or handled in a way that goes beyond what is needed to inspect it.
Damaged or faulty works
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected by these terms. If a work arrives damaged or is not as described, tell us and we will repair, replace or refund it, as the law requires.
Authenticity
Every work carries a tamper-proof hologram and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Harrop, with a matching serial number. Please keep the certificate with the work. If you sell or give the work away, pass the certificate on with it and let us know, so the work's history stays complete.
Copyright
Buying a work gives you ownership of the physical work. Copyright in the photographs and in every Quartet, including commissioned compositions, stays with the artist. You may photograph the work in your home and share those photographs for non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce the work in any other way without our written permission.
Where the law gives the artist a resale royalty (the Artist's Resale Right), it may apply when a work is later resold through an art market professional.
Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring proceedings in your local courts. If you have a complaint, email us first and we will do our best to put it right.
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one shown on the day we confirm it.
